We do other things too, we work with businesses and organisations involved in public safety such as the police, and local councils, who may provide you with useful information in the app. You can also share your experiences or views with us via the app.
Basically, it means any information that could be used to identify you from others. A simple example is your name and address; or it could include a telephone number, email address or a device identifier, which is a unique reference number for your phone, laptop or tablet. Some information about you is more sensitive, information about your health or religion for example. This type of information is called Special Category data, the laws and rules we have to follow are stricter as a result.
You give us details about yourself when you set up an account and download our App. This data is essential; without it we could not provide you with a personal service.
If you are aged under 13, we must ask a parent or carer or another adult who looks after you to give us that information for you. We tell them how we keep that information safe in our other ‘Privacy Notice’ used for adults. They can ask to see any of that information, any time.
If you are aged 13 to18 and find signing up for our services easy to understand then you can give us permission (or, ‘consent’) to record some information about you.
It’s important for you to know that we take great care of your information.
We don’t share your information unless you tell us we can, unless we are really worried about your welfare or it’s done in a way that hides your identity (anonymised). Our computer equipment is very secure, our staff are trained to use and store your information safely.
The information you give us allows us to enable people you choose to monitor your movements, but only when you ask us to. Our App also allows you to send information to us and receive updates and useful information relating to public safety.
We go to great lengths to ensure what we do is lawful.
Without your information, we are unable to provide you access to the features of our App. Opening an account with us to download the App is called entering a contract. (The legal basis is called performing a contract).
If someone known to you becomes concerned for your safety whilst monitoring your movements, we may have to share your information with others, such as the persons you have nominated or in more worrying circumstances, the emergency services. (The legal basis is called protecting your vital interests).
We design, build and in some cases sell Apps, without your information they cannot be used. We treat your information with great care, making sure it is only used to allow you access to the features on our App. (The legal basis is called pursuing our legitimate interests).
We must keep your information all of the time you maintain an account with us. If you no longer wish to use the App or cancel your account, we will not keep your information for more than 2 years after you leave. We have a list of how long we keep all information and what we do with it (delete or archive) when its time is up. We keep it very safe on our systems, just like you would expect us to.
You have what we call ‘rights’ when we use your data. One is your right to know what we do with it.
You can ask us to let you know what personal information we have about you, or if we stop using it or delete it. If your personal data is wrong, you can tell us, and we will fix it.
Our Chief Technical Officer makes sure we are following all the rules, and your data is safe. If they see something wrong, they tell us how we can fix it.
Because of how important it is to keep your data safe, and to follow all the rules, you can email us at support@walksafe.io if you are worried about what we do:
There is a special government department whose job it is to make sure we follow the rules and make sure we correct things if we get it wrong. You can write to them:
